A job search is mostly repetitive browser work: searching, filling the same forms, writing messages and keeping track of where you applied. Microsoft Edge runs Chrome Web Store extensions, so job seekers using Edge have the full toolbox. Here's what's worth installing, grouped by the job it does.
1. Applying: AutoApply CV LinkedIn Copilot
Fills LinkedIn Easy Apply forms from your saved answers, applies only to the job titles and filters you set, skips titles with words you exclude, and never applies twice. It also helps you message recruiters from LinkedIn hiring posts by WhatsApp or email. Free for 3 applications a day. How to set it up in Edge.
2. Writing: a grammar checker
A grammar extension such as Grammarly catches typos in cover letters, LinkedIn messages and application answers, where small mistakes cost the most. Pick one and keep it on for every text box.
3. Tracking: a job application tracker
Tools like Teal or Huntr save a job post to a board with one click, so you can track stages and follow-ups. If you use AutoApply CV, applied and skipped jobs are already tracked in your dashboard, so a tracker is most useful for jobs you apply to outside LinkedIn Easy Apply.
4. Built into Edge: sleeping tabs
Edge puts tabs you haven't used for a while to sleep, freeing memory. Useful when you have LinkedIn, your resume, a tracker and twenty job posts open. Find it in Settings under System and performance.
5. Built into Edge: vertical tabs
Moves tabs to a side list where you can read full job titles instead of tiny tab labels. Turn it on from the tab actions menu at the top left.
6. Built into Edge: Copilot in the sidebar
Open Copilot next to a job post to summarise the company, suggest questions to ask in the interview, or draft a first version of a cover letter you then make your own.
How to choose
- Start with the biggest time sink. For most people that's filling application forms, so start there.
- Read the permissions. An extension should only ask for the sites it needs.
- Keep it to a few. Every extension uses memory; four good ones beat fifteen.
