Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome are built on the same open-source engine, Chromium. That's why Edge can run nearly every extension from the Chrome Web Store, including job search tools like the AutoApply CV LinkedIn Copilot. You only need to switch on one setting the first time.
Step 1: allow extensions from other stores
The first time you open a Chrome Web Store page in Edge, Edge shows a banner at the top: "You can now add extensions from the Chrome Web Store to Microsoft Edge". Click Allow extensions from other stores and confirm with Allow.
Missed the banner? Open edge://extensions and turn on Allow extensions from other stores in the left panel.
Step 2: install the extension
- Open the extension's page on the Chrome Web Store. For example, AutoApply CV LinkedIn Copilot.
- Click Add to Chrome. In Edge this installs the extension into Edge.
- Review the permissions and click Add extension.
- Click the puzzle icon in the toolbar and click the pin next to the extension, so it stays visible.
Step 3: check it's working
Click the extension's icon. For AutoApply CV, the popup shows your account as Connected once you're signed in at autoapplycv.in, and your Hires balance underneath. Open LinkedIn Jobs and press Start.
Common problems and fixes
- The "Add to Chrome" button is greyed out: the "Allow extensions from other stores" setting is off. Turn it on at
edge://extensionsand reload the page. - The extension doesn't appear in the toolbar: it's installed but not pinned. Click the puzzle icon and pin it.
- Your work or school laptop blocks it: your organisation controls which extensions are allowed. Use a personal profile or ask your IT team.
- It says it can't run on this page: most job extensions only run on specific sites. AutoApply CV runs on LinkedIn Jobs, so open linkedin.com/jobs first.
Are Chrome extensions safe in Edge?
They're the same extensions with the same permissions, reviewed by Google before they're listed. As with any browser, install only what you need, read the permissions, and prefer extensions with a clear privacy policy. AutoApply CV's is at /privacy-policy, and it never asks for your LinkedIn password.
